What are the differences between Vinyl and Silicone Chess boards?
As the foundation for your game, choosing the right chess board is essential! To make sure your board suits your needs, there are a few things to consider: Where will you use it? Who will be playing? Will you need to transport it? How and where will it be stored?
Both Vinyl and Silicone chess boards are suitable for indoor and outdoor use, and both are durable enough to stand up to regular enthusiastic play. However, Silicone boards come with some extra advantages that Vinyl boards don’t have.
Our Silicone Chess Board
Our Silicone board has the same visual features as a standard Vinyl board, but the Silicone material is a lot more flexible, a lot more durable, and a lot less prone to creases. Vinyl can be rolled, but can retain some creases and curves. With a Silicone board, you can roll it, fold it, or crumple it up into a ball, and it will spring back into its perfectly flat, perfectly smooth shape every time!
Silicone is spill resistant and easily wipes clean, making it perfect for players of all ages, and ideal for use in all environments, indoors or out. Drop your drink? No problem. Love playing chess in the rain? Carry on! Playing with messy kiddos? Perfecto.
The non-slip nature of the Silicone material helps the board “grip” the table, making it nearly impossible to bump or shift the board during play. Combined with our weighted chess pieces, The Best Chess Set Ever is super sturdy, so you can focus on moving your pieces, and not worry about moving the table.
To store a Silicone board, simply fold or roll it up until next time. You easily can toss the board into a bag or suitcase. Our Triple Weighted chess sets come packaged in a 8.25" x 5.25" x 4.5" storage box, with the board, pieces and strategy guide, making it the perfect set to take anywhere.
